Breakfast & Brunch Wines: Surprising Pairings to Enjoy

Morning time isn’t just about coffee and mimosas - a world of wines can take your dining experience to the next level.

As someone who enjoys cooking in the morning and primarily eats at home early in the day, I follow the principles of healthy eating.

First and foremost, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, setting the tone for energy and well-being. You’ve probably heard the famous quote:

Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.

Adelle Davis

Adelle Davis, an American nutritionist and author, is most famous for emphasizing whole foods and balanced diets. She believed breakfast should be the most important meal of the day to fuel the body, while dinner should be the lightest to support digestion and restful sleep.

Following this philosophy, I ensure that everything I eat in the morning is not only nutritious but also visually appealing and full of flavor and color. Why colorful? The colors in our food represent different vitamins and micronutrients.

Eating a vibrant, rainbow-colored meal naturally provides a broader range of essential nutrients, supporting overall health. And I think you would agree - colorful food is mouthwatering! See the image below.

The meaning of eating healthy in 2 images: color and variety are a must.
Your Plate: Vegetables and fruits – ½. Whole grains – ¼, Protein – ¼.
You could use a Harvard healthy eating plate or Canadian guidelines.

I start my day with a delicious, well-balanced meal and a cup of tea accompanied by something sweet. A tasty beginning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Yes! You can eat dessert, but not too much)

On weekends or during the holiday season, wine can be a delightful addition to breakfast or brunch, bringing a touch of sophistication and fun. Beyond taste, the ritual of enjoying a thoughtfully paired wine with a well-prepared meal makes the morning special.

After all, a good breakfast or brunch is not just about nourishment; it is about pleasure, balance, and starting the day with celebration.

🍷🥯 Morning Pairings

The meals are complete with recipes and perfectly matched wine pairings.

Not every wine suits the morning table, but certain styles work beautifully with breakfast and brunch. Light-bodied wines with high acidity balance the flavors and fat in dishes, improving the overall experience and creating a more harmonious dining experience.

The key is to match the intensity of food and wine so they do not overpower each other.

While there are some basic rules for food and wine pairing, it’s important to remember that everyone is different. We all have different tastes, preferences, and sensitivities to food or wine. The best thing you can do is try different pairings, trust your taste, and, most importantly, enjoy the experience!
